Ethics Committee

Committee Chair: Jehangir (Jay) B. Bastani, MD

Our Approach:

The Ethics Committee of the Arizona Psychiatric Society (APS) is dedicated to ensuring that APS and its members uphold the highest ethical standards as defined in the American Psychiatric Association's Principles of Medical Ethics with Annotations Especially Applicable to Psychiatry ("Principles"). The Committee addresses ethical issues across various settings, including community, telemedicine, and private practice. This involves responding to members' requests for guidance, providing educational resources on ethical challenges, and reviewing and issuing decision recommendations on ethics investigations involving APS members. Such investigations are initiated by individuals with appropriate standing, and jurisdiction, within the established time frame. The APA supports the Committee with training on principles and procedures to ensure members are well-prepared to handle a broad range of ethical concerns effectively.
