Navigating Psychiatric Care for Transgender Adults

Christina Arredondo, MD, MPH, FAPA


Christina Arredondo, MD, MPH, FAPA Dr. Christina Arredondo is a board-certified psychiatrist and addiction specialist with a strong focus on public and community mental health. She serves as the Medical Director of Behavioral Health and Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) at El Rio Health in Tucson and leads the MAT program for the Pascua Yaqui Tribe. She also holds a faculty role as Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson. Dr. Arredondo brings extensive experience working with marginalized populations, particularly transgender and gender-diverse individuals. She is a leader in expanding access to gender-affirming psychiatric care in integrated community settings. Her approach is grounded in cultural humility, trauma-informed practices, and a deep commitment to health equity for underserved communities. Fluent in Spanish and recognized as a Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, Dr. Arredondo pairs her clinical work with a broader public health perspective. She is passionate about mentorship, program development, and transforming behavioral health systems to be more inclusive, accessible, and responsive to the needs of LGBTQ+ populations.
