Panel Discussion: Innovative and Emerging AI Trends in Psychiatry The Arizona Psychiatric Society is proud to feature a distinguished panel exploring the innovative and emerging trends of artificial intelligence in psychiatry at the upcoming Annual Meeting. This dynamic session will bring together leading experts whose work spans clinical psychiatry, crisis care, digital mental health, and enterprise technology. Dr. Margaret “Margie” Balfour, MD, PhD, DFAPA Dr. Balfour is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson and Chief of Quality and Clinical Innovation at Connections Health Solutions. She is nationally recognized for her leadership in mental health crisis systems and quality improvement. As a key architect of the Tucson Crisis Response Center—a national model—Dr. Balfour has also led efforts to integrate behavioral health with law enforcement and to implement groundbreaking initiatives such as the 988 mental health emergency response system. Her work at the intersection of policy, clinical care, and innovation offers vital insights into the application of AI in real-time psychiatric crisis settings. Dr. Sandeep Vohra, MBBS, MD, IFAPA A trailblazer in digital mental health, Dr. Vohra is the founder and chairman of Vohra Neuropsychiatry Centre and No Worry No Tension Healthcare. He also serves as Senior Consultant Psychiatrist at Indraprastha Apollo and Nanavati Max Super Speciality Hospitals. With a strong research focus on AI-driven diagnostics, telepsychiatry, and scalable mental health solutions, Dr. Vohra has received international recognition for his innovations. He brings a global perspective on how artificial intelligence can enhance diagnostic precision, treatment personalization, and accessibility in psychiatric care. Donald Lazure, MMSc, PA With more than two decades of experience bridging clinical practice and health technology, Mr. Lazure currently serves as the Clinical Strategy Lead at Commure, a leading digital health platform. His career began at Massachusetts General Hospital, where he contributed to the foundational Epic EMR build. He later held roles at Microsoft and Nuance, applying clinical insights to the development of AI-powered healthcare solutions. At Commure, he now leads enterprise digital health innovation, focusing on strategic growth and clinician-centered transformation. His expertise will offer a valuable lens on how AI can be meaningfully integrated into psychiatric workflows and systems of care. Together, Dr. Balfour, Dr. Vohra, and Mr. Lazure will examine how artificial intelligence is reshaping psychiatric diagnosis, care delivery, and crisis intervention. Attendees will gain firsthand insights into cutting-edge innovations, real-world applications, and ethical considerations guiding the future of AI in mental health.
