Correctional Psychiatrist

Maricopa County Correctional Health Services (CHS) provides medical care at 2 inpatient and 7 outpatient clinics in 6 jail facilities. This position ensures that CHS fulfills its mission by providing medically necessary; evidence based integrated health care to patients going through the judicial system.  Responsible for direct day to day psychiatric and mental health services and assures that CHS responds to urgent mental health needs, provides necessary continuity of care services for those patients with chronic care conditions, and provides appropriate mental health services that may emerge during patient’s stay in the county jail system.   

Requires a Doctor’s degree from an accredited School of Medicine or of Osteopathic Medicine; completion of an approved US Residency Fellowship in Psychiatry. At least 3 years experience in psychiatric evaluation. Experience working with mentally ill patients, in an institutional environment.  Knowledge of the practice of forensic psychiatry.  Current license as Psychiatrist in the State of Arizona and board eligibility/certification per requirements as outlined by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Comprehensive knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures of general and/or institutional psychiatry and sub-specialty area for the care and treatment of individuals with mental illness.
